Class is in Session
Generally speaking, your county will often host free events that you simply need to sign up for. Once our county was offering a free couples course on communication so we thought, “why not?” Not only did we get to spend time together and learn more about each other, but we also ended up going through the course one-on-one with a trained professional. We also received gift cards, free snacks, and lunch for our time and participation. It was a win-win-win-win-win situation!
Picture Perfect
Is it time for a portrait update? Whether Facebook is calling or this is the 48th time your mom has requested an updated photo, it is time. Why not make a date of it? Scope out and research the perfect location in town and set a date (and time preferably around golden hour or when cloudy so you don’t have to worry about harsh lighting). Then you simply both get all dressed up to whatever vibe you’re going for and go out to have your own mini photo shoot!
Take turns taking photos of each other and have a go at using your camera’s timer setting (and something sturdy to place your camera on top of) to get some nice selfies. Of course, if you’re taking these photos with your phone(s), just stretch out the ‘ol arm for a good old fashioned selfie. Tip: an easy go-to for location is a grassy background or brick wall.
Ye Olde YouTube
The best part is there is something for EVERY mood. Feeling crafty? Sciencey? Feel like a laugh? Wanna learn sign language? Or the words to your favorite song? Want some hacks for home organization? How to say hello in 20 languages? Catch up on current events? Seriously the list goes on and on. Tip: Add popcorn or other favorite theater snacks and drinks to round out the date. Or dinner and drinks, it’s whatever you want!
Mr. Willy
Wonka would approve of this date! Research the nearest chocolate factory and see if they offer tours. They’re fun, educational, smell delicious, and usually include a sample! This is another good one to look on Groupon for discounted rates. If you can’t find a chocolate factory near you, you can always just take a trip to the closest candy/chocolate store and buy a few individual pieces and have a chocolate taste test of your own. Just make sure you don’t forget to have some milk handy!
Legend of Spook Hill
Most towns have at least a few legends/places said to be haunted. If you’re looking for a bit of a thriller, research your towns legends and go on a spooky date. While researching Google for your hot spots, try using phrases such as, “paranormal activity of _____” and insert your town/state. As always, popcorn welcomed, especially if you’re a nervous chewer. Make sure to hold onto each other tight so you can make it through the night! Good luck, be careful, and of course please use wisdom in following the law (that means no trespassing).
